Enoch is said to have learned "God's mysteries and had access to the heavenly tablets," according to Jewish commentaries on the Old Covenant. Two Jewish apocalyptic books are ascribed to him, and they are known as the Ethiopic and the Slavonic Book of Enoch. He is mentioned frequently in certain Dead Sea Scrolls, and his story and the writings attested to him are found in the ancient book of Jubilees. These works are not considered inspired writings of the Holy Spirit but they do give us great insight if nothing else into information that was available during the first few centuries of the early church.

The Ethiopic Book of Enoch, from the Second Temple period, is divided into five sections. The first (1-36) deals with how fallen angels lusted after the daughters of men and produced a race of wicked giants. The second section (37-71), deals with the "last day," and with the Messiah, who is called the "Elect One."

The third section (72-82), is a rather large section known as the Book of the Heavenly Luminaries. It gives the mysterious course of the sun, moon and stars. It teaches the "true" calendar is 364 days per year, or 52 weeks. The fourth section (83-90) is similar to section two, and it covers the period of Noah's flood and follows history to the beginning of the Hasmonean period (Greek influence). The fifth section (91-108), divides history into 10 period, seven of which are already passed. The last three indicate the righteous will triumph, te Temple will be rebuilt and the day of the last judgment will come. The second part (106,107) deals with Noah's and Enoch's instructions to mankind. No matter how interesting these writings may be, we must turn to the Bible, the Word of God, for TRUE information related to this righteous man, Enoch:
