Elijah and the Spirit of Jezebel

There is an ongoing war for the heart and soul of not only our nation, but for the entirety of the Body of Christ. The spiritual forces that are seeking the eradication of all things godly have a historical precedence and portrayal in the Word of God, framed in this narrative between the conflict between Elijah the prophet and a woman named Jezebel. Jezebel turned the people's hearts away from righteousness and plunging Israel into Baal worship which is filled with child slaughter and demonic worship. The woman Jezebel was an actual person, but her spirit lives to this day. Jesus warned the church at Thyatira that this "prophetess" still seduces God's servants and plunges the church into a realm of darkness that must be confronted by the power of the Holy Ghost. This battle friend is for the battle of souls and eternity beckons for every single one.

TEXT: 1 Kings 19:1-4 - Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done--that he had put all the prophets to the sword. 2 Jezebel then sent a messenger to Elijah and said, "May the gods do thus and so to me if by this time tomorrow I have not done with your life what was done to each of them."  3 Elijah was afraid and fled for his life, going to Beer-sheba of Judah. He left his servant there and went a day's journey into the desert, until he came to a broom tree and sat beneath it. He prayed for death: "This is enough, O LORD! Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers."
 

Elijah was a radical prophet sent to King Ahab during desperate times. What little we know of him is actually a signature to God’s ultimate purposes for one who cared nothing for what people thought of him, only what God thought. Out of nowhere he came and into heaven he disappeared. Elijah, the Tishbite; even the name rings with authority and such clarity that it beggars description. He was the man for such a horrible time as “this” in Israel’s history and America needs such a man today. We are at war in a similar fashion as Elijah of old was at war with the influence of Jezebel, whose spirit lives on today influencing millions for evil and worse in the Body of Christ.

I want to look in this journal at something that happened to this mighty prophet during his sojourn on earth. There were three main stops in Elijah’s journey - Cherith, Carmel and the Cave. Each one has prophetic signifiance and in the near future we will actually write separate journals on his experiences in Cherith and Carmel for without understanding those two places, it’s really useless understanding how the most powerful prophet in all of human history found himself hiding in a cave wanting to die. This event is not small in scope nor importance when addressing the current situation in the modern Body of Christ.

Millions of well meaning Christians, many of which who are anointed to preach, to sing, to teach, to minister in signs and wonders, to prophesy and to heal, have been so influenced in this war against Jezebel that they have found themselves hiding in the same cave as Elijah suffering the same anguish this mighty man of God found himself in. Elijah had stood toe to toe with the powers of darkness just days before, now however, he found himself on the brink of utter despair calling on the God of heaven to not pull fire down from the sky as he did on Mount Carmel, but for the same God to end his mortal life and take him out of his misery because of the deep depression he found himself in this cave.

I will deal more with the cave in a moment but I want to regress just a bit in this journal and talk about the individual who caused this to occur in Elijah’s life for this same individual actually influences millions today; her name is Jezebel.

Jezebel, the Zidonian princess, became a wicked queen, rebellious wife and mother who usurped the rulership of Israel, causing all Israel to follow her in worshipping Baal and Ashtoreth, about 800 B.C. She was the daughter of Ethbaal (meaning Baal’s man or with Baal), king of Zidonia, also rendered Sidon. Her father murdered his brother to become king and as Jezebel’s pagan family worshipped Baal and Ashtoreth, she in turn introduced this perverse religion to Israel, which up until this time in her history, with some exceptions, had worshipped the only true God, YHWH. Jezebel turned the people’s hearts away from righteousness by marrying the spineless Ahab, king of the Northern Kingdom, which consisted of ten out of the twelve tribes of Israel. Jezebel was influential in three kingdoms and the spirit that dwelled in her continues to operate beyond her lifetime to this very moment this writer sits down in the wee hours of the morning to write these words. Jezebel ruled deceptively from within her ivory palace, controlling and dominating her husband and managing to lead the nation in a 30-year reign of despotism that included murder, carnage and all manner of demonic spirits and activity on a scale Israel had never seen to that point and in reality has not seen since.

The only part of Israel’s history that mirrors this time will be the season of the coming Antichrist, who will actually unleash unspeakable evil upon not only Israel, but the entire world while being possessed by demon spirits; some commentators believing that the very same demon entity and spirit that controlled Alexander the Great will control the Antichrist, or man of sin. As Jezebel was a chalice for every demonic and unclean spirit known to man, so will the Antichrist be controlled in a similar manner and be such a similar chalice and receptacle.

It is a given principle in Scripture that even though Jezebel the person is gone, the spirits that indwelled her are alive, acting out the same scenarios today as they did through the flesh and blood woman Jezebel almost 3,000 years ago. Whatever the woman Jezebel did THEN, is exactly what the spirit of Jezebel is doing today. There are thousands possessed by this spirit, but untold MILLIONS, even in the Body of Christ, are affected by its influence.

Jezebel the woman was Elijah’s arch enemy and as such her malice toward him was so deep, she sought to destroy both HIM and his message. While she continually sought to locate him through her spies, she unleashed a campaign to eradicate the other prophets of YHWH, all but 100 who were hidden. She was reckless and violent in nature, but outwardly she appeared beautiful, draped in her queenly robes against the backdrop of her ivory palace. She dined with 400 prophets of Ashtoreth daily as her weak kneed husband Ahab encouraged all Israel to worship at her feet and follow her in the wicked practices of Baal and Ashtoreth worship.

No person dared oppose Jezebel except one man and one man alone - ELIJAH the Tishbite, who while standing on Mount Carmel, challenged the Baal prophets to a contest which featured the challenge that whichever deity showed up and burned the sacrifice, all the people would worship that god. It was agreed. The false prophets tried everything to gain their god‘s attention, but failed, miserably. Their garments were torn and shredded, their bodies streaming with blood. Today, young people sew razor blades into their clothing, drawing blood as they wildly bash dance for attention, yet their heathen gods are STILL deaf to their cries.

Elijah stands back mocking and ridiculing the Baal prophets, inciting them to frenzy, and further acts of self-mutilation. When it was Elijah‘s turn, the real war for the soul of Israel began.

Let me tell you this neighbor. This “contest“ on Mount Carmel is the same contest being waged at this very moment for the heart and soul of America, as well as every other nation in the world. Most nations have already given up the fight against this influence of Baal on their people because most nations have turned to Islam or full-fledged New Age humanism or Eastern mysticism. Europe at this very moment is being overrun by Islam at such a rate that it is estimated by 2013 Great Britain may very well become a full-fledged Islamic democracy if there is such a thing. This “war” for our nation is what is engulfing the lives of countless millions on a daily basis, many of which are clueless as to why they are feeling the squeeze in their spirits or the sense of utter fear and helplessness against the powers of darkness. The Spirit of Jezebel has several characteristics that affect both nations and individuals, but her main master plan is very simple - destroy the works and the people of God. Elijah‘s one master plan was also quite simple, which is in reality should be the master plan of the modern church - PROCLAIMING the will of God through the Word of God and DOING that will through the power of the HOLY GHOST. We’re at war friend, plain and simple. Have you noticed the increased efforts to remove God from everything that society can think of removing Him from? Have you noticed the anxiety and anger against the prophetic anointing, even among some so-called Christian camps within the outward profession institution we call “church.” This clash is heating up but I can assure you we’ve only seen the tip of the ice berg. It’s going to get much more intense before the rapture!

Yet even though the church seems to be Jezebel’s favorite stomping ground it is hardly even aware that she exists; yet she is alive and well in virtually every place believers gather to worship YHWH with a humble spirit and contrite heart. True worship and praise are like lightning rods in the spirit realm, always drawing Jezebel’s evil demon spirits and hoards to the battle for men’s hearts and minds.

One of Jezebel’s main characteristics is she introduces pagan worship into the hearts of the people of God. Jezebel introduced the pagan religion of the Phoenicians and Canaanites, who worshipped Bel or Belus, identical god to Baal, to Israel and Ashtoreth worship. Ashtoreth was represented by carved wooden poles set up next to statutes of Baal. The Canaanites believed that Ashtoreth ruled the seas, was the mother of all the gods including Baal and was the consort of Baal. Out of 10 million Israelites, only 7,000 prophets remained faithful to YHWH. Let me tell you this neighbor. The remnant will always be in existence no matter how small the number. God will always have a people who will not bow the knee to heathen gods and idols. While relentlessly pursuing her efforts to destroy the worship of God, she corrupted a whole nation and sought to eradicate all of YHWH’s prophets through savage and cruel pagan worship.

This savage and cruel pagan worship included the murdering of innocent children. The prophets of Baal and Ashtoreth were murderers of babies, engaging what was called “foundational sacrifice,” thinking it to be a good luck charm to sacrifice an infant and build its body into the wall of new structures.

Neighbor, there is no reconciliation for any nation who allows such to take place! I want to say that again. Unless there is severe and deep repentance over such diabolical deeds, there is no reconciliation for ANY nation or ANY individual who allows such to go on. Hiliary Clinton in 2005 standing before a New York City convention of women boldly proclaimed that “Roe V. Wade struck a blow for women all over the world today and with renewed efforts to strike it down, we must stand firm in our resistance to ANY legislation seeking to eradicate it’s existence.” I ask Ms. Clinton a simple question. Are 48 million murdered babies the “blow” that Roe V. Wade struck for women’s equality under the law? Six months ago the nation of America went into convulsions over an Atlanta Falcons quarterback killing 3 dogs and using them for sport. Groups all over the nation including PETA walked up and down the campus at Virginia Tech with signs proclaiming “Dogs Deserve Justice.” They do? Well where is the justice for the 48 MILLION innocent babies that have been yanked from the mother’s womb in this nation?

Let me tell you neighbor, there IS no mercy when a nation does such dastardly and despicable acts without repentance! THE ONLY THING STANDING BETWEEN GOD’S JUDGMENT ON AMERICA IN TOTALITY IS THE CHURCH OF THE LIVING GOD. The only force standing between Jezebel and the total destruction of this land are the Elijah’s of God!

Not only was Jezebel an influence to child murder, her spirit was one of power and control to the point that if she wanted something she took it no matter the cost or hurt to others. Her crowning crime was of course the innocent murder of Naboth, whose property was coveted by her wicked husband Ahab. To secure this vineyard, she had d, a righteous man, falsely accused and put to death, then in a further act of total depravity and madness had his sons stoned to death. The heirs had to be destroyed to complete her wicked scheme to fully possess the vineyard. She destroyed an innocent servant of God and in essence stole not just Naboth’s vineyard, but God’s vineyard!

Naboth’s slaughter typified more than just the loss of a physical vineyard, but the slaughter going on in the hearts of men. Jezebel cost MILLIONS of people their eternal salvation and as a servant of Satan caused Israel to break her sacred covenant with God.

In addition, Jezebel’s combined worship of Baal and Ashtoreth set the stage and produced a tidal wave of SELF-WORSHIP, self will, lewd, indulgent, reckless behavior, acted out in sodomy, sex orgies and perversion. Priestesses were actually temple prostitutes while sodomites were made male temple prostitutes participating in the worst debauchery and decadence known to man while worshipping their gods.

Through her, the people were taught that they could do anything they liked and were convinced through her priests that they would not being held accountable for their sins. No wonder the nation wanted to worship these gods and no wonder America bows her knee at the similar idol of self worship today! SELF is the new god of the modern church. Every book that comes out, every song that is written, every new man made scheme that is put together, every 40-day adventure into self-help and new age humanism is built around one thing and that is the worship and deifying of SELF. We want to be self-gratified so preachers of the gospel no longer warn the people of the coming judgement upon sin but tell them how to live their lives better; how to buy bigger cars; how to but bigger houses; how to make their lives more “easy” and more “comfortable.”

Part of this ongoing 2008 Presidential campaign that makes this writer want to vomit and gag are the false promises of two candidates who claim if elected they will “change” the landscape of America and make American’s lives “better.” Will they? Will they be able to just wash away and hide under a rug the screaming blood of 48 million slaughtered babies, the stink of homosexuality, lesbianism, perversion, pornography, lust, adultery, fornication and the like that grip this nation at its soul? We’re at WAR neighbor and the prize are the souls of every man, woman, boy or girl.

The Jezebel person is unique in that this evil spirit took the form of an actual human being. Jezebel, after all, was a real flesh and blood person, possessed of a wicked spirit who took her name and continues on, making a last ditch effort prior to the rapture at the end of the church age to destroy the influences of God through her war on God’s servants, the CHURCH, the BODY OF CHRIST!

Jesus warned the church at Thyatira of her influence in these last days:

There are several mini-aspects if you will to a Jezebel spirit, all of which work together many times in one unique and demonic fashion. These spirits include but not without additional ones:

6. A Spirit of Deception

7. A Spirit of Haughtiness

8. A Spirit of Pride

11. A Spirit of Covetousness

12. A Spirit of Murder

13. A Spirit of Witchcraft and Divination

14. A Spirit of the Lusts of the Flesh

Jezebel was said to “stir up” those around her many times and those with this same spirit have the same quality.

Not only does Jezebel stir up those around her, she dominates with a controlling spirit. Jezebel walks in dominance, surrounding by bitter envying and a constant atmosphere of confusion. She always gives orders, but won’t allowed them to be carried out without humiliating the other person involved. She belittles and gossips, operating in bitter envying and strife. Jezebel uses silence or anger to control. THIS IS WITCHCRAFT! Paul called this spirit in Galatians 5 a “work of the flesh,” meaning that this spirit works through men who have not allowed the HOLY GHOST to change them but are still walking in the power of Adam’s fallen nature. Some pastors have this spirit and through it they seek to control or manipulate their congregations. Some Jezebel’s manipulate from behind the scenes while others are blatant and in your face. Jezebel won’t get along with anyone she can’t dominate. When in the presence of a Jezebel spirit, one fervently wishes to elsewhere; I’ve heard some people who have brushed up against this spirit say that it feels like a horrible creepy-crawly sensation that permeates the atmosphere.

Rebellion plays a key role with this spirit. She sows seeds of unrest and strike and always lives in conflict trying to control, arrange and dominate everyone around her. She keeps others in a state of turmoil. When women are affected by this spirit they tend to be embittered against men. When men are affected by this spirit they are embittered against women and tend to be very abusive, both physically and mentally. She is vicious, unrelenting and pitiless. She preys on the weak and is a predator against all whom she senses she can destroy and control such as her wicked, weak husband, Ahab.

The spirit of Jezebel is a cruel spirit tha dominates others through vanity, hatred, disdain, insecurity, and jealously. She publicly humiliates others, including spouses. With the tongue she wrecks, demeans and destroys. Through character assassination, she makes others fearful of her sharp tongue; through women she questions the manhood or ability of others, making them feel small; through men, she berates and puts down the wife making her feel inferior and unwanted by her mate. She is the cause of many a divorce and millions do not understand the source of what actually caused the split.

Jezebel seeks worship of herself using manipulation and intimidation for the purpose of domination. She will not tolerate anyone who wants to serve the true God, YHWH and uses deception, divination and witchcraft to turn the people’s hearts away from God; her tools are greed, pornotography and the flesh.

This spirit also seeks to rule without compromise or negotiation no matter the sex. What I mean by that is this.. IN women, this spirit weeks to rule the roost sort of speak and the husband is forced to go along with things or get out. She teaches other women they do not have to be submitted to their husbands and often encourages open rebellion and a spirit of independence.

A well known black charismatic woman who was beaten up by her pastor husband in an Atlanta, Georgia hotel parking lot earlier this year had been in the pulpit just 2 weeks before advocating this very thing. She was advocating women to use violence against their husbands if they did not get their way and encouraged a spirit of rebellion as well. Her comment was “sometimes you have to act like a Soprano, cut their throat and walk away.” She sowed violence into the hearts of women and two weeks later she reaped that same violence.

This spirit grips the modern feminist movement which is geared around men-bashing as well as concentrated efforts by women to beat down and not allow their husbands to be the true head of the household.

Jezebel is consumed by GREED. She never likes others controlling the money and must keep control of it in order to abuse and misuse it. She often lavishes it on herself, while her family/church/business suffers. Jezebel fleeces her followers and always pushes for greater building projects to edify man (SELF) instead of God. One pastor friend I know said a well known evangelist came to his church and raised nearly $10,000 in two nights worth of offerings from his flock. A few months later the church got into a tight place, this pastor called the evangelist and asked him for a small love offering and he pretended to be broke and unable to help.

Jezebel preys on those with a tendency toward flamboyance and exhibitionism. This spirit draws attention to itself, rather than the true God. Jezebel seduces through the lusts of the eyes and flesh, and the deceitfulness of riches. ALL IS VANITY and part of the ongoing war against the saints! Greed is why so many Christian musicians and singers get lured into secular music. It is the true reason why so many secular musicians and singers get saved, and for a season turn their backs on the world to serve Jesus only to see Satan choke off their finances and soon they feel compelled to return to the world deeply disillusioned and broke. (Mark 4:18-19, 1 John 3:16)

The broad highway to hell is paved with former servants of God, and the narrow road to heaven has been deserted by many who have fallen by the wayside, having had the seed of the Word fall on stony ground, where it sprang up for a season.

Jezebel also promotes hated and dissatisfaction between spouses. This spirit is fiercely independent and intensely ambitious for control. The reader may remember in 1992 when then President Clinton was trying to get elected, and Hilary was asked to tone herself down, wearing drab colors, and not speaking as much. We were never even told she had a middle name, which was actually her maiden name before marriage. After the election, mission accomplished, THEN came the announcement that the American people were getting two for the price of one.

The then first lady Mrs. Clinton removed her mask of submissive behavior and began to wear bright colors, emphatically and forcefully taking control of some operations. The American people were then immediately informed that she was to be referred to by her MIDDLE name, a declaration of independence and dominance, insisting it be announced whenever she was addressed. (Jezebel always loves recognition). Shortly thereafter she tried to force a healthcare system on the public that would have created a bondage to a socialist system. Socialism seeks to control people’s lives through seizing all the operations and actions of their lives, promoting big government, binding the people and recreating them as puppets of the state. Several of her choices for appointments were proponents of strong women’s rights and lesbians who received powerful positions of influence in the White House. Shortly after Hilary Rodman was marching proudly in gay/lesbian parades.

As this spirit gained influence in our government in the 1990s it was behind the promoting of gay rights, women’s rights and children’s “rights” that in actuality was masking a more sinister move to take away parental rights and destroy the family unit, making children creatures of the state, not a mother and daddy. Clinton’s first act as leader of the free world in 1992 was passing legislation promoting gay/lesbian rights in the military and work place. His last speech in 1999 to a gay/lesbian audience was to reassure them that he was behind them 100% and would continue to do everything he could to promote their agenda. Mrs. Clinton stood with him during these speeches affirming her personal support of everything he was saying.

The President, overcome with lust and womanizing because being a prisoner to Jezebel, seemed helpless to stop his actions. Meanwhile, a well known, astonishingly dominant lesbian, was made Attorney General. She pushed Jezebel’s agenda of abortion, and policies that promoted the slaughter of religious people without recrimination or apology. Jezebel never apologizes nor is she ever sorry. The former Secretary of Commerce, the late Ron Brown, was indicted and threatened to reveal Clinton’s illegal dealings to save his own hide, he was killed when his plane suspiciously crashed the very next day after his press conference revealing he would testify. Jezebel’s agenda is murder and slaughter and during the Clinton years many bodies came up dead or missing without reason or reconciliation. God knows what went on just as He knew everything that Jezebel did to the nation of Israel and her citizens.

In March 1997, this same spirit further sought to destroy true religion in an unprecedented way. One magazine’s headlines on March 5, 1997 was “FBI Turns Aggressive on Terror,” stating that there were at that time 857 active patriot groups in the USA. These groups were identified and defined as militias, common-law courts, radio broadcasters, publishers, churches and others who identify themselves as anti-government and who oppose the “New World Order,” that has become the new catch phrase of the 21rst Century. Under Bill Clinton’s watch, the seeds for this began and with the advent of 9-11-2001, measures to tighten the reigns against such groups leaped light years into the future furthering the cause of the Antichrist and causing Jezebel to grab hold a little tighter on her plan of the complete annihilation of churches. President Bush actually resisted this move early on in his Presidency but over the past few years has become an increasing globalist advocate behind the scenes. By the way, since when did churches become terrorist organizations?

Now as we rapidly approach November 2008, the same Mrs. Clinton from the 1990s with her socialist agenda and what this writer believes to be a secret plan to destroy every single church she can while also seeking to silence the Christian faith and voice in this nation, she seeks no longer to be number two, but to be in total power of the United States of America with wicked Ahab still at her side, this time no longer in power but as her husband. Friend, this is the spirit of Jezebel that is at war for the soul of this nation and is seeking to control America come November.

All of these things were mentioned to allow the reader to see the scope and depth of Jezebel’s persona and traits. However, NONE of these traits are as relevant to the war we face today in the church as Jezebel’s intended efforts to seek the destruction of the true prophets in these last days. Jezebel has the distinction of being the first female persecutor in history. Her true enemy is the prophet of God who exposes her and confronts her with the WORD OF GOD, the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT. She hates true prophets and as such seeks to destroy them just as she murdered hundreds of them in early Israel.

Remember this. A true prophet will always lead people to repentance and humility. Jezebel hates humility; she hates repentance; she hates prayer. She seeks to stir up the people against the true prophets in order to kill and silence the prophetic, because as we just stated, a true prophet will always expose Jezebel for who she is, just as Elijah did in paving the way for her ultimate destruction at the hands of Jehu. This is why the war today is being fought against those with spiritual gifts, especially pastors, leaders, presidents, church leaders, Sunday School teachers, and anyone who as a prophet of God seeks to speak the truth of God’s Word.

This brings us in essence to the subject of this journal to be frank. Elijah came up against this spirit and what happened to him as a result has gripped the hearts of millions today who, like Elijah, have ceased to call fire down from heaven, but have run from their calling and hidden in a cave.

Days after calling fire down from heaven and standing face to face against 450 other prophets, now the prophet of God is so fearful of one woman that he takes off and runs into the wilderness and winds up in Beer-sheba hiding for his life. The once mighty prophet of God no longer is operating in faith but in fear. Listen to me neighbor and hear this writer plainly today. (19:3)

Fear will always drive one away from the will of God; faith will always lead one TOWARDS the will of God. For Elijah, fear is now in control. (19:4)

Elijah’s wayward trip covered 500 miles, yet the Lord never forsook him. I ask you today. How many wayward trips have we taken, yet the Lord has never left us or forsaken us? Some have looked at this event and said that Elijah’s reactions were merely because he depended on the flesh and not the Spirit, which may be true. Others said he lost faith and heart and just gave up sort to speak on the ministry God had given us. There may be truth to that as well. Some said his ministry ended when he ran from Jezebel; I don’t believe that for one moment and I will show you why in a moment. The bottom line is this. Elijah came up against this Jezebel spirit and as result after receiving angelic food in Beersheba ran another 180 miles from there to Horeb and found himself in a cave.

Even though it cannot be proven, there is a great plausibility that the cave where Elijah arrived at was the “cleft of the rock,” in which Moses had stood while the Lord passed by. (Exodus 32:22). He had ran 680 miles from the wrath of Jezebel, tired, lonely, depressed, full of fear, full of anger I’m sure; full of doubts to his calling; full of weakness; full of self-pity and self-righteousness - ALL SYMPTOMS OF AN ENCOUNTER WITH A JEZEBEL SPIRIT.

The Jezebel spirit is so powerful that in its presence one feels very weak and fearful. Those who are affected by this spirit become lethargic, helpless, sometimes unable to move limbs or speak coherently, except in a zombie or drone-like way, the effect lasting after the person with the Jezebel spirit has long gone. The strong antichrist spirit that works through Jezebel always seeks to silence the true prophets, of which thousands were killed during the time of Jezebels’ reign. A person with this spirit will never admit she/he is wrong but will manifest a controlling spirit, gone off the deep end, out of control.

And in this war for the soul of Israel, Elijah encountered this spirit and as all who have done so in the future, succumbed to it and ran to find himself in a cave wanting to die.

This spirit is real and it’s destroying the lives of countless millions while reeking havoc on churches, families and ministers of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. What we have written in this journal deals with what caused Elijah to wind up in the cave to begin with and the forces of darkness at work in the earth today to destroy the plans of God. In our next journal, we will take a closer look at Elijah and his emotional state once he brushed up against this demonic force.

Neighbor, it‘s getting late and the times that are at hand are about to make the lines of this battle more pronounced and more violent in nature. Child of God, all I can say is get your seat belt on and your prayer belts fastened. This is spiritual warfare, not spiritual monopoly.
